Bengaluru Woman Orders 2 Free Thalis Online, Gets Duped Of Rs 50K

There is no denying the fact that our lives have become very easy after we have started making online transactions whether it is shopping, transferring funds, booking cabs, ordering food, etc. However, it also increases the risk of getting robbed as our smartphones contain all the details required to make financial transactions and if someone gets to know these details, he can rob our money.

The government, banks and various other financial institutions have been advising people against sharing their bank details with other people for a long time now but still many individuals make the mistake of sharing their details which ultimately make their lives troublesome.

A 58 years old woman from Bengaluru who lives in Yelachenahalli in South Bangalore was robbed of Rs. 50K after she ordered food online. The name of the woman is Savita Sharma; she saw an advertisement on the social networking site Facebook in which a restaurant located in Sadashivanagar was offering 2 free thalis on buying one thali of Rs. 250.

She made a call to the number that was given in the advertisement and the person from the other side asked her to pay Rs. 10 in advance. The person also told that she could make the remaining payment in cash when the food would be delivered to her by the delivery boy.

She got a link on her smartphone and filled the form in which she also sent her debit card number and PIN. As soon as she submitted the details, she got the message of Rs. 49,996 being withdrawn from her bank account within few minutes. After this, she tried calling the restaurant but that phone number was switched off. Next day, she made a complaint at the Cyber Crime Economic Offences & Narcotics (CEN) police station.

The police have started the investigation and we hope that the culprits get caught soon. We also advise our readers to be careful and never share any important bank details online.
