Chahal Opens Up On Ouster From RCB, “Fans Still Ask Me ‘Why Did You Ask For So Much Money?’”
Yuzvendra Chahal, the Indian spinner, used to be an integral part of Royal Challengers Bangalore till the IPL 2021 and RCB fans were quite sure that Chahal would be one of the retentions but it didn’t happen. However, the biggest shock came when RCB didn’t even bid for Yuzi in the mega auction for the IPL 2022 and the spinner was bought by Rajasthan Royals for a price of Rs. 6.5 crore.
Yuzi is quite active on the social media networks and many fans have asked him what happened because of which he was neither retained nor purchased by RCB. Till now, Chahal refrained from speaking on this issue but recently during an interview with a leading daily, he spilled the beans and revealed his side of the story.
He says that he is very much emotionally attached with RCB and he never thought that he would ever play for any other franchise in his career. He adds that till date, many fans ask him as to why he has asked for so much money from the franchise because of which he is not a part of the team. He goes on to say that in reality, he did get a call from RCB Director of Cricket, Mike Hesson who told him (Chahal) that three players who have been retained are – Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Mohammed Siraj.
Chahal further added that neither he was asked whether he wanted to be retained nor they offered him retention, he was just told about the three retentions and was also told that the franchise would go for him in the auction. He also said that if he had been asked for retention from RCB, he would have said ‘Yes’ because money is not the primary concern for him. He added that while RCB gave him a big platform, the fans gave him lot of love and support.
He further said that whatever happens, he will always be loyal to his fans from Bangalore as he loves them a lot. Yuzvendra Chahal also talked about his conversation with the former skipper of RCB, Virat Kohli after he was bought by RR. According to Yuzi, Virat said, “Royal toh hai hi tu” (You are already a Royal).
Yuzi has played 114 IPL matches, out of which 113 he has played in the RCB jersey and he has taken 139 wickets while playing for RCB from 2014 till 2021. Though Chahal hasn’t played a match for RR till date, he was a part of the franchise in 2010.
We wish all the best to Yuzvendra Chahal on his new beginning!
