The dowry system has been made illegal in the country many years ago but still we have seen that there have been cases in which the groom’s side has demanded dowry from the bride’s family. Sometimes the cases have been reported in the police and the culprits get punished as well but many times, the bride’s family agrees to the demand of the groom’s family as they want their daughter to get married and live a happy life.

However, a girl from Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, was in no mood to get married after paying dowry and whatever happened after that is making waves all over the social media.

On June 14, a marriage was taking place in Mandhata village and during the Jai Mala ceremony, a brawl took place between the two families. Things turned uglier when the friends of the groom misbehaved with the family of the bride. After this, the groom’s family demanded dowry from the bride’s family if they wanted the wedding to take place.

This deteriorated the situation further and things turned so bad between both the families that the bride’s family tied the groom to a tree and he was kept captive for many hours.

Though both the families negotiated for many hours yet they could not reach a resolution. Finally the police arrived and they arrested the groom after freeing him. Later on, a meeting was arranged between both the families for bringing a solution to the matter.
